Drone Aim

My Wish

  1. I want aerial style video of the crazy sports I do with my friend.
  2. I'm on a normal salary, i,e. I can't afford a TV crew!  Mr. Boss, feel free to help me here :)
Crazy Drone Idea
Of course, why don't I just build a Drone ... nice!

Haha, right of course people just do that every day.  So I originally thought it was impossible, see my first post, yet after a few hours on Google I started to believe it was possible.

So in basic terms, what do I want ...

  • Something to follow, hover and circle me from the air ... a Quadcopter is looking good.
  • Something to carry a video camera ... that will be the Sony Action Cam
  • Not cost me a fortune!

Why Do This?

Fame, Money and Glory ... well I wish.

It's all just for fun!!!

I really want to see if I can do it, even if I can't be done, I'll be fun trying :)

So whilst my plans are evolving, please enjoy my above diagram of the goal!

  1. Keep it going David!

I have been following your blog closely, I am building a gadgeteer .net drone myself.

I work with .net at my job and I'm also a student doing my masters of science in computer science so an autonomous drone seems like a good way to use these skills.

Good luck and I hope you keep updating.

    Louie

    1. Hi Louie,

Thanks for following! It goes in waves the development as I too and a working guy :)

I thought I fried my Gadgeteer board over the weekend, nearly had a heart attack, however all good now.

What type of drone are you building? Any particular purpose or for fun like me?

      Cheers,

      David

  2. Hey David,

Yea mainly for fun I got the idea after playing around with the netduino a bit. I then decided the gadgeteer would be more appropriate for that sort of thing. I would like to try and test some different logic for flying autonomously and see how much I can learn and how far I can tale the platform.

Should be fun. I still in early stages though much like you.

    Regards,
    Louie

  3. Hi Louie,

Yes it's a great fun little project trying to build your own autonomous aircraft and just seeing how much a "normal" guy can do by himself :)

Let me know how it goes for you ... at the moment I'm just checking out the right motors and ESCs, great fun learning new "stuff"!

    Kind regards,

    David
P.S. where are you based? I'm UK based.
